In Kazakh mythology, an albasty is a demon, a chthonic figure associated with the element of water. She is predominantly female, with long breasts that she throws behind her back. In the water, they transform into snakes. The breasts, an integral part of her body, take on a life of their own. Albasty freeze in the dance poses of the traditional Kazakh dance "Kamazhay." The breasts transform into intricate Kazakh ornaments, metaphorically forming patterns of consciousness, strength, beauty, power, and control.
